Questions parents ask

Should a 3-year-old still be in a stroller?

There is no single cut-off age. The maker's limits decide. Every one of the 115 strollers in the quiz states a child weight limit: 87 allow 50 lb or more per seat and 6 allow 60 lb or more. Some makers also state a child height limit.

In the quiz, answer the weight question with what your child will weigh while you still use the stroller, not only today.

Is a double stroller worth it, and when do you need one?

It depends on how often both children ride. If the older child walks most of the time, a single stroller that takes a second seat later can be enough. 8 strollers in the quiz are sold as single-to-double: the maker states that a second seat can be added.

Choose “One now, a second later” in the quiz to see those next to the doubles.

What is a good double stroller on a budget?

Set the budget slider in the quiz. Price only removes strollers above your budget. It never moves a cheaper stroller up. The 35 doubles with a stated price in the quiz cost from $79.99 to $1,398 (maker pages, read Oct 23, 2026).

Do newborns need a bassinet stroller?

Not always. Each maker states its own minimum age. Some seats are for use from birth. Others take a newborn only with the maker's bassinet, infant insert or car seat adapter.

In our data: 21 strollers state use from birth, 30 state newborn use with an accessory, and 16 state no minimum age. The quiz does not yet check which car seat fits which stroller; the card says when the maker includes an adapter.

What is the difference between a stroller and a jogger?

A jogger is built for running: usually large air-filled wheels, a front wheel that locks straight, and a hand brake. A regular stroller turns more easily in stores and folds smaller. The quiz keeps a stroller under “Running or jogging” only when its maker calls it a jogging stroller (18 of 115).

Ask your pediatrician before you run with a baby. Chicco's guide says “you should not jog or run with your child as an occupant until they are at least 12 months of age” (Chicco, read Oct 22, 2026). UPPAbaby's page for the Ridge (read Oct 22, 2026) says jogging is only for a child who holds the head up without help, and to ask a physician.

What is an umbrella stroller for, and from what age?

An umbrella stroller folds long and narrow, like a closed umbrella. It is light and quick to fold, with fewer extras than a full-size stroller.

In our data, 7 strollers have an umbrella fold as the maker states it. Minimum age stated: 9 months; 1 states no minimum age.

Is a 29 lb stroller heavy?

Compared with our data: 94 of 115 strollers weigh less than 29 lb, as their makers state. The middle weight is 24.9 lb overall, 14.5 lb for travel and lightweight strollers, 27.8 lb for doubles and 27.2 lb for jogging and all-terrain strollers (read Oct 23, 2026).

If you lift it often, choose “Stairs, subway or bus” or “Fly with it” in the quiz. Weight then counts more in the ranking.

Can I take a stroller on a plane?

Each airline sets its own rules for gate-checking and cabin bags, so check yours before you fly. Choose “Fly with it” in the quiz to favor light strollers with a small fold. Only 5 of the 115 strollers in the quiz carry a cabin-size statement from the maker; the card shows it when it exists.
